👋 Hey, Chiefs Kingdom!

After missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014, head coach Andy Reid heads into the 2026 season under some pressure. And going into the preseason games, he faces a tough call: should a recovering Patrick Mahomes take the field? Well, after nearly two weeks of intense training, Reid finally has his verdict. Will it be Mahomes or Justin Fields?

Fans find out whether Mahomes takes preseason snaps or if he has to wait for the regular season.

We're just days away from the first preseason game, and here are the key takeaways you need to know from St. Joseph.

  • Despite concerns around his knee, WR Rashee Rice put in a stellar performance on Thursday. Patrick Mahomes chose him as the target in practice early on as Rice darted up the middle of the field.

  • Speaking of Mahomes, the QB had plenty of passes for everyone. He threw passes to TE Travis Kelce, WR Tyquan Thornton, TE Noah Gray and WR Xavier Worthy

  • CB Nohl Williams wasted no time starting the defensive segment. On the very first play, Williams picked off a pass near the sidelines and took it all the way back.

  • Joining him was S Alohi Gilman, who also managed a pass interception later on in the same segment. Meanwhile, S Jadon Canady and CB Mansoor Delane each broke up a pass.

During his final college season at Texas Tech in 2016, Patrick Mahomes played through a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder for most of the year and later broke a bone in his non-throwing (left) wrist, yet never missed a game.

He injured the shoulder on a scramble against Kansas in late September, left that game early, but returned nine days later and threw for 504 yards at Kansas State. He managed the shoulder pain the rest of the season while putting up huge numbers. Then, in a late-season loss to Oklahoma, he broke a bone in his left wrist during a 734-yard passing performance and still played the following week. Some former teammates later said they didn’t even know the wrist was injured at the time.
