Patrick Mahomes started strong on Wednesday. He opened the morning with a deep ball to WR Tyquan Thornton. WRs Jeff Caldwell and Jalen Royals both managed impressive leaping catches in the same segment.
Speaking of Mahomes, he’s re-establishing himself as a top dual-threat QB. When the blitz came at him, he simply rolled out, realised there was no one open, and scrambled to pick up the first.
CB Mansoor Delane and Kevin Knowles had good outings. Delane appears to be taking on more physical matchups, breaking up a pass meant for Rashee Rice. Knowles managed to pick off Mahomes before taking it to the end zone.
With their eight padded practices in 10 days wrapped up, Thursday will be an easier day for the team. Come Friday, however, the Chiefs will need to step up, especially since they take on the Los Angeles Rams later in the week.
When Lamar Hunt moved the team from Dallas to Kansas City in 1963, he initially planned to keep the name “Kansas City Texans.” He even had a logo designed showing the outline of Missouri with a star marking Kansas City. Team executives talked him out of it, arguing it wouldn’t sell. A fan naming contest followed, and “Chiefs” was chosen, partly to honor Kansas City Mayor H. Roe Bartle, who was widely known as “The Chief.”
